TREE POLLUTION? For 25 years, a yucca tree has bloomed at John and Sharon Fairborn’s oceanfront home on Balboa Boulevard in Newport Beach. But city officials recently told them the 25-foot tree violates the new oceanfront encroachment policy, and must be removed--despite the fact no neighbors have ever complained. The City Council now says maybe the policy should be reviewed to spare the tree. . . . Says John Fairborn: “It’s a beautiful tree--it provides shade and cleans the air.”
