Ryan McGuire didn’t make the final roster of the United States Olympic baseball team this summer, but he found another place to make his mark.

McGuire, a former El Camino Real High standout, had two doubles Thursday to lead Anchorage, Alaska, to an 18-3 rout of the Valley Rangers in an elimination game of the National Baseball Congress World Series at Wichita, Kan.

McGuire, a first baseman who will be a junior at UCLA in the fall, drove in four runs to lead Anchorage.

The game was called after five innings because of the tournament’s six-run mercy rule.

Anchorage pounded out 17 hits in the fifth-round game.

Tim Harkrider had three hits and a two-run double and teammate Carl Hall had two hits and three runs batted in for Anchorage.

After suffering their first series loss to Midlothian, Ill., 16-7, on Tuesday night, the Rangers defeated Cape Girardeau, Mo., 7-5, on Wednesday to remain alive in the double-elimination tournament.

The Rangers, a team based in Encino and coached by Frank Des Enfants, finished 28-19 and 3-2 in the World Series.
