Sending U.S. Troops to Kuwait
Defense Secretary Dick Cheney says we are dispatching 2,400 U.S. soldiers to Kuwait only to demonstrate that we are ready to go on short notice (Aug. 2). He also denies that this is a political move orchestrated by President Bush. I find that impossible to believe.
For one thing, the Kuwait campaign began as a United Nations effort, not a unilateral action by the United States. I see no evidence that the U.N. is involved in this latest development.
I wait anxiously for Congress to assert itself and for the American people to protest loudly. Getting us into another war barely three months before the election is an outrageous abuse of the power of the President.
