James R. Allen; Air Force General Ran Academy

James Rodgers Allen, 66, retired Air Force general who was superintendent of the Air Force Academy and head of the Military Airlift Command. A native of Louisville, Allen was a fighter pilot in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He served as head of the Academy from 1974 until 1977, when he became chief of staff at NATO headquarters in Brussels. He retired in 1983. On Tuesday in Washington, D.C., of cancer.
