Ice-T Controversy

The editorial on the Ice-T controversy determines that the responsibility of the artist is to create according to “reasonable standards of taste and respect,” but cops out at the end offering only the question: “Where to draw the (self-imposed) line?”
The purpose of art is to uplift the human spirit. That’s the whole meaning behind the term creation . The word culture comes from Babylonian times and the Cult - Ur . Cult means “to care for” and Ur was the Chaldean term for “light”--the spiritual creative aspect of the universe. Therefore, culture was the “care and cultivation of the creative spiritual force.”
Thus, the very act of creating something in any of the arts should be rooted in the idea of “is it uplifting the spirit of all?” There’s your standard!
