Hundreds Volunteer for BP Buyout Offer: Nearly half the employees at BP America’s Cleveland headquarters have volunteered to accept a job buyout offer, the company said. Ian Fowler, a BP spokesman, said 1,577 people offered to take voluntary separation. BP wanted to cut 500 to 600 jobs from its Cleveland staff of 3,500. BP America is the U.S. subsidiary of British Petroleum, the third-largest oil company in the world. Fowler said BP was not sure how many employees would get buyouts because some people may be eligible for job extensions or for vacancies in key jobs. The buyout offer includes one month’s pay for each year of service--up to 18 months of severance--plus help finding another job.
