Famine and War in Somalia

Share

I hear passionate pleas from members of Congress asking the President to do something about the bloodshed in Yugoslavia. But I don’t hear any members of Congress, black or white, asking for assistance to end the bloodshed or starvation in Somalia. It brings to mind the outrage of people in Southern California when someone other than blacks and Latinos are victims of gang violence. There is talk of more police patrols, money to combat crime and outrage among members of the City Council. Have we grown so accustomed to seeing black faces on television starving in Third World countries and dying of violence in our own country that we just don’t care?
