THE ARTS

Votes for Clinton: Two Orange County arts officials--David Emmes, producing artistic-director of South Coast Repertory, and Louis G. Spisto, executive director of the Pacific Symphony--endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Bill Clinton on Tuesday, saying they think he is a stronger supporter of the arts than President Bush. The question came up during a panel in Newport Beach, a traditionally Republican stronghold, and at first neither would commit in front of the 100 or so local business people present. Pressed later in private by a reporter, each said Clinton was his man. David DiChiera, artistic director of Opera Pacific, also was at the event but said he wasn’t ready to make an endorsement.
