Pomona : Billboard Decision Delayed

Share

The City Council has delayed until Oct. 13 a decision on whether to allow Regency Outdoor Advertising Inc. to put up 10 large billboards along freeways in exchange for demolishing 27 smaller signs elsewhere in Pomona.

Councilman Boyd Bredenkamp’s absence because of a death in his family prompted the council to continue the issue after hearing arguments for and against the proposal.

One unresolved issue raised at Monday’s meeting was whether allowing Regency to install 10 new signs would give a legal opening for other firms to erect billboards.

Councilman Tomas Ursua called the Regency plan “an interesting concept” but added, “I’m concerned about opening up things.”

Councilwoman Nell Soto agreed, saying that the attraction of the Regency plan is that it would remove old signs but that “we don’t want any more billboards coming in.”
