Stanley Woodward, 93, a former U.S. ambassador to Canada, chief of protocol and Democratic Party official. Woodward, a Foreign Service officer, served as chief of protocol for the State Department from 1945 to 1950 after eight years as assistant chief. He then became ambassador to Canada until 1953 and served as treasurer of the Democratic National Committee in 1954 and 1955. After leaving government service, he served as president of a family-owned residential development and leasing business. In Washington on Monday of the complications of a stroke.
