GARDEN GROVE : Schools Announce New Assignments

Several principals and other school administrators will assume new posts when school starts next month in the Garden Grove Unified School District.

Mike Lombardi, who was principal at Bell Intermediate School last year, will take over as principal of Pacifica High School.

He will succeed Bob O’Higgins, who moves to Lincoln Educational Center as director of vocational education and regional occupational programs.

The new principal assignments for intermediate schools include Jim Smith, principal of Fitz Intermediate School, who will trade schools with John Barriga. Barriga will move from Fitz to Doig Intermediate School.

At Alamitos Intermediate School, the new principal will be Kent Baird, who formerly served as an assistant principal at La Quinta High School. He will take over for Lou Drexel, who retired in June.

Jim Monahan, formerly assistant principal at Santiago High School, will be promoted to principal of Bell Intermediate.

Two other schools which also closed down in 1980 will reopen for elementary students for the 1992-93 school year.

At Peters Elementary School, originally an intermediate campus, the principal will be Sharon Wiggins, who was principal of Bryant Elementary School.

When Brookhurst Elementary School reopens in the fall, Gene Takach will be the administrator in charge. Takach moves to the school as principal from Hazard Elementary School.

Replacing Wiggins at Bryant School will be Sharon Hazelleaf. She comes to the district after serving as elementary school assistant principal in the Santa Ana Unified School District.

Larry Hartman will leave his post as principal of Lawrence Elementary School to assume the same duties at Hazard.

Filling the top post at Lawrence will be Gail Sugamura, who has been a district program specialist in special education.

Also, Irene Lopez, a program specialist from the Anaheim City School District, was named principal of Heritage Elementary School.

Dwain Leach will move from Heritage to Violette Elementary School, following Bruce Hankins, who is moving to Stanley Elementary School.

Hankins replaces Ray Fry, who retired at the end of last school year.

Sandi Wright, acting principal of Carillo Elementary School, was appointed principal of the school on a permanent basis.

Barb Batson will now head Marshall Elementary School after switching positions with Gary Lewis, who will take the top spot at Clinton Elementary School.

At the district office, Eileen Dibb has been named director of grades 7 through 12 instructional services, succeeding Chuck Leonard.

Leonard was appointed executive director of alternative and continuing education.

Before her most recent appointment, Dibb was director of K-12 educational services.

The 1992-93 school year begins Sept. 10. The Garden Grove Unified School District serves most of Garden Grove and portions of Santa Ana, Anaheim, Westminster, Cypress, Stanton and Fountain Valley.
