Steven Bochco Lays Down the Law : GIVE HIM THE JOB

Share

“I f I Ran a Network . . . ,” last Sunday’s commentary by television producer Steven Bochco (“Hill Street Blues,” “L.A. Law”) has prompted a heavy response from readers. A sampling:

Bochco has my full endorsement to remake TV! His network ideas are bold and unprecedented, but clearly from all vantage points, the old ways are not working.

Bochco’s work has given us some of the best in TV--depth, sensitivity, courage and issues about real people--not right-wing moral rhetoric about “family values.” He and others have so much to offer socially, creatively, artistically. What are the present network executives really afraid of--substance and conviction or just viewers with the same?
