Mission College President Jack Fujimoto has been named to the Community College League of California’s Commission on Legislation and Finance.

The commission, made up of educators, students and members of community college boards, makes recommendations to the state on college financing.

Fujimoto, who will serve a two-year term, was appointed to the commission by Peter MacDougall, league president and superintendent-president of Santa Barbara Community College.

“Finances so often govern what we do, but they should not be the driving force behind what we accomplish as academic institutions,” Fujimoto said. “We ought to have educational programs and services to benefit the economy and society in general as the driving force.”

Fujimoto also chairs the advisory board of Community College Education for New Californians and directs Partnership 2000, a state-sponsored program that links business, education, labor and government to better prepare students to enter the work force.
