ALISO VIEJO : Construction to Start on Middle School

Share

Construction is expected to start in the next two weeks on Aliso Viejo Middle School, which will be only the second public elementary school in the 10-year-old community.

Last week, the Capistrano Unified School District Board of Trustees approved an $8.2-million contract with Berry Construction Inc. to build the school, which will serve up to 1,400 students from kindergarten through eighth grade.

Officials hope to see the school completed by next fall.

Actual construction costs of the school will be funded through state grants.

The district bought the land for the school using funds from a special tax levied against some Aliso Viejo homeowners.

In September, the district will open Foxborough Street School, an “instant” school made entirely of relocated classrooms.

The temporary school, the first public school in the community, will serve about 550 students from kindergarten through sixth grade.

Work is also already underway on Aliso Niguel High School, which will serve both Aliso Viejo and Laguna Niguel students when it opens in September, 1993.
