Marconi, 59, Former Ram and Bear, Dies
Former NFL running back Joe Marconi, 59, who was an All-Pro with the Chicago Bears in 1964, died of a heart attack Saturday.
Marconi was undergoing treatment for leukemia.
A native of Fredericktown, Pa., Marconi played college ball at West Virginia and helped the Mountaineers win 31 of 38 games between 1952 and 1955. He played in the 1953 Sugar Bowl and two college all-star games after his senior season.
In 1956, he was drafted No. 1 by the Rams, playing there for five years before going to Chicago for four more seasons.
After retiring, he worked as a steel company executive in Chicago.
He is survived by his wife, Janet, three sons and a daughter.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete Sunday night.
