From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Alaska Airlines Plans Cutbacks: A tough business climate will force Alaska Airlines to furlough 650 to 800 of its employees through the fall, Chairman Ray Vecci said. Although the employees are expected to be called back to work for the winter holiday season, it would be the largest number of workers the airlines has ever furloughed, Vecci told the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce. After a profitable 1991, Alaska Airlines in May reported first-quarter losses of $15.7 million. Vecci warned of possible year-end losses.
