Diet Firms Seek Promotional Rules: Five major diet companies have petitioned the Federal Trade Commission to establish industrywide standards and regulations for weight-loss advertising and promotion. The companies said the FTC has been taking the wrong approach by investigating diet companies one by one. Filing the petition were Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig International of Del Mar, Calif., Nutri-System of Blue Bell, Pa., Physicians Weight Loss Center of Akron, Ohio, and Diet Center of Pittsburgh. The FTC has been investigating the promotional practices of various companies in the diet industry for more than two years.
