GOP Convention

If there was ever any doubt about the Republican Party being captured by the Religious Right Christian Coalition, that doubt was eliminated on the first day of the Republican Convention. I have not seen a more revivalist style fundamentalist crusade since the religious morning show, the 700 Club starring the Rev. Pat Robertson.
My alarm increased with the endorsement of President Bush by the religious righteous Patrick Buchanan. The demands for two constitutional amendments calling for a ban on the sins of abortion and the legalization of school prayer and Bible reading was interesting, especially since we do not have a state church or a national God. I really resent a political party legislating for me the kind of god I must worship or telling me what God’s will is for me and all other Americans.
I don’t want to vote for more Democratic taxes, but I can’t vote for this Republican unholy alliance with the fundamentalist, Bible-thumping right Christian Coalition. I may yet toss my vote to Ross Perot and hope for the best. Both major party candidates are totally unacceptable.
