Share

Competing U.S. Senate candidates John Seymour and Dianne Feinstein will stump in Orange County today during a series of speaking appearances.

Feinstein, a Democrat and former San Francisco mayor, will travel to two cities to give speeches before ending the day with a fund-raiser, said assistant campaign manager Gail Gordon.

Republican Sen. Seymour, meanwhile, is scheduled to receive formal endorsements from two statewide law-enforcement groups.

Seymour is struggling to gain a big enough margin in traditionally Republican Orange County to win statewide election, a recent Times poll found. Seymour leads Feinstein by 52% to 39% in the county in a survey taken last weekend.

At 10 a.m., Feinstein will speak to the Orange County Urban League in Garden Grove’s Hyatt Regency Alicante hotel about economic improvement measures. At noon, Feinstein speaks to the Orange County Women Lawyers Assn. in Orange.

Feinstein is scheduled to appear at a 5 p.m. fund-raiser sponsored by the Orange County Health Care Providers. It will be in Newport Beach at Le Meridien Hotel, Gordon said.

Seymour, the former state senator from Orange County who is trying to hold onto his U.S. Senate seat, will appear on the steps of the Old Orange County Courthouse during an 11:30 a.m. endorsement ceremony.

Seymour is scheduled to receive endorsements from the California Police Chiefs Assn. and the California Peace Officers Assn., said political director Rick Davis.

Attending the endorsement ceremony will be Orange County Dist. Atty. Michael R. Capizzi, Davis said.
