NORTHRIDGE : CSUN Restores 164 Cut Classes

Share

Cal State Northridge officials said Friday they have restored 164 classes of the more than 500 that had been canceled for the fall semester and rehired about 100 of the 500 laid-off instructors.

About 28,000 students are expected to begin classes Monday at CSUN, which, like all 20 campuses in the California State University system, faces deep state budget cuts for the 1992-93 school year.

But the fight for classroom seats at CSUN will be reduced somewhat by restoration of the classes, campus officials said. Students can sign up for the new classes beginning today using the university’s telephone registration system, officials said. Money to restore classes will come from a savings in salaries created by the departure of 80 to 100 CSUN professors who are expected to take an early retirement under a new incentive program approved by the Legislature. In addition, CSUN will receive $400,000 from the CSU system.
