Sammy Timberg; Composer, Vaudevillian

Sammy Timberg, 89, a composer and vaudevillian who served as straight man for his better-known comedian brother, Herman. Early in his career he worked as musical director for the Marx Brothers while composing songs for such Broadway musicals as “Broadway Nights” and “The Street Singer.” He also composed songs and background music for the Fleischer Studios cartoons, which featured Popeye, Betty Boop, Superman. His song “Help Yourself to My Heart,” written with Buddy Kaye, was recorded by Frank Sinatra. In Scranton, Pa., on Wednesday.
