The home where Dwight D. Eisenhower married Mamie Doud and later vacationed as the nation’s 34th President is for sale.

“Ike used to come here in his big, red Lincoln convertible,” real estate agent Rob Coleman said. “The whole neighborhood talked about it. He liked to come here to golf and fish.”

The three-story home in Denver’s north Country Club neighborhood was built in 1905 by John Sheldon Doud, Mamie’s father. It has four bedrooms, five fireplaces and a swimming pool. Bonni Kortz, who has owned it for 20 years, is asking $395,000.

Julie Nixon Eisenhower once recommended that the home be declared a historic landmark, but Kortz never pursued the designation. She said she is selling it because her arthritic knee makes climbing stairs difficult.
