CHINA’S ONE-CHILD POLICY

Why doesn’t the Chinese government take its one-child policy to its logical conclusion and have tubal ligations performed on every woman immediately after the birth of her first (and, of course, only) child? Such a procedure would eliminate the heartbreak of repeated abortions and stop what is shaping up as nationwide female infanticide.
