CAMARILLO : Council Seeks New Bids on Landscaping

Share

Despite the possibility of severe budget cuts, the Camarillo City Council is soliciting new bids for a $243,000 landscaping project after the first round of bids came in too high.

In addition to voicing concern about the city’s fiscal uncertainties, council members questioned whether Camarillo should plant more landscaping during a water shortage.

However, the council voted 4 to 0 last week, with Councilman David M. Smith absent, to rebid the project.

As part of the plan, turf on Mission Oaks Boulevard will be replaced with drought-tolerant plants, and a drip irrigation system will be installed. City officials project a 90% reduction in water use in that area.

The low bid in the first round was $316,937. By eliminating a project specification requiring a test for soil contaminants and their removal, city staff members said they expect to receive lower bids.

City workers did the testing themselves and found no contamination, officials said.
