Macy’s Outlines How It Will Address Problems: R. H. Macy & Co. released an outline of how it intends to address its financial and marketing problems during the next five years. While short on specifics, the plan that the retailer showed creditors last week identified several problem areas, including staffing levels, customer frustration over products not being available, and the effectiveness of its advertising and promotions. Macy proposed cutting management staff and limiting the number of sales it holds as well as continually re-evaluating unprofitable businesses. Macy, which has been operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since January, said creditors’ initial response to the plan seemed favorable. A more detailed business plan will be submitted in November.
