Lowell E. Sears, chief financial officer of Amgen Inc., was named the biotechnology company’s senior vice president for the Asia-Pacific region. Sears, who will establish Amgen’s operations in Japan and other markets in the region, also will remain chief financial officer until a replacement is named.

The Thousand Oaks-based company also made several other executive appointments. N. Kirby Alton was named senior vice president for therapeutic-product development, and Robert K. Andren was appointed senior vice president for operations.

Dennis M. Fenton was named senior vice president for sales and marketing. He will oversee Amgen’s domestic sales and marketing operations.

Thomas D. Beard, who had held the sales and marketing post on an interim basis, will resume his full-time role as vice president for sales.

Amgen also said Arthur F. Staubitz, senior vice president, secretary and general counsel, will resign effective Sept. 15. Thomas E. Workman Jr. will serve as acting general counsel until a successor is appointed.
