LOS ANGELES : Crowd, Police Square Off After Fight; 6 Arrested
- Share via
A fight among a group of women at a popular Southwest Los Angeles cruising spot grew into a confrontation between Los Angeles police and a crowd of between 250 and 300 people, authorities said Monday.
There were no serious injuries during the incident at 11 p.m. Sunday night, but police arrested six people, charging three with misdemeanors and three with felony assaults.
About 25 officers were summoned to Florence Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard after the crowd began throwing rocks and bottles, said Capt. Patrick Froehle, commander of the LAPD’s 77th Street Division. Police do not know what started the initial fight, Froehle said.
For years, the Crenshaw corridor has been a popular spot for cruising in cars on Sunday nights, drawing hundreds of people and often the police, Froehle and others said.
