World IN BRIEF : BRAZIL : Key Minister to Quit Collor Government

Economy Minister Marcilio Marques Moreira, the most respected figure in embattled President Fernando Collor de Mello’s government, will resign after the lower house of Congress votes on a proposal to impeach Collor on corruption charges, Moreira’s spokesman said. He will quit regardless of how the vote goes, the spokesman said in Sao Paulo. The vote is expected later this month. Moreira is admired for renegotiating the country’s foreign debt and instituting an ambitious privatization plan.
