SAN FERNANDO VALLEY : Crime Prevention Seminar Offered

Share

An increase of more than 90% in armed robberies throughout the San Fernando Valley in the last two years has spurred the Los Angeles Police Department to hold a “Business Watch” anti-crime seminar on Sept. 14 for West Valley merchants.

Robberies jumped from 477 in 1990 to 911 during the same eight-month period in 1992, police said.

At the seminar, robbery detectives from the West Valley station will provide merchants with robbery prevention methods and suggestions on how to ensure the safety of employees and customers during a robbery.

Merchants will also be given information on robbery trends and the latest crime statistics from West Valley communities, including Canoga Park, Encino, Reseda, Tarzana, West Hills, Winnetka and Woodland Hills.

The event is scheduled for 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel, 21850 Oxnard St., Woodland Hills. The event is being sponsored by TransWorld Bank and the hotel.

Merchants can make reservations to attend the free seminar by calling the Los Angeles Police Department at (818) 904-2891.
