Dash Thru Traffic, bred by the Vessels Stallion Farm of Bonsall, Calif., and trained by Jack Brooks, won Monday’s $1,890,986 All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico by 2 1/4 lengths.
The winner covered the 440 yards in 21.44 seconds against a mild head wind and returned $10.00, $4.80 and $3.60. The 4-5 favorite, the filly Perfect Victory, was fourth.
Dash Thru Traffic earned $1 million for owners Deborah, Charlie and Trish Therwhanger of Lubbock, Tex., as Brooks won the nation’s richest quarter horse race for a record sixth time.
The best finish for a California jockey was fifth by Kip Didericksen aboard Royal Down Dash. Bruce Pilkenton finished eighth on Heart Trick and Danny Cardoza came out of retirement to ride Luxurious Dreams, finishing last in the 10-horse field.
