LOS ANGELES : Muslim Relief Official Appeals for Aid to Bosnia

The leader of a Muslim charitable organization from Bosnia-Herzegovina visited Bosnians and Croatians in Los Angeles on Tuesday and painted a darkly grim picture of the bloody ethnic war and need for humanitarian assistance in the former Yugoslav republic.

Beginning a two-week tour of the United States, Izet Aganovic, president of the Red Crescent, a Zagreb organization similar to the American Red Cross, portrayed his native land as running starkly short of food and other supplies and teeming with a million homeless people as winter approaches.

Aganovic, a medical doctor, was scheduled to appear before a large group of Croatians and Bosnians in San Pedro Tuesday night. He said he is seeking commitments of humanitarian help as well as attempting to inform Americans of what is happening. He said he will meet with State Department officials in an effort to increase U.S. pressure to end the bloodshed.
