Gillette to Buy Parker Pen: Gillette Co. has agreed to buy British-based Parker Pen Holdings Ltd. for about $561 million, a single stroke that would make the No. 1 razor firm the world leader in the writing market. Gillette already sells inexpensive Paper Mate pens and high-priced Waterman pens. The company said Parker’s mid-priced line would fit in between the other two brands. Gillette officials said the deal must be approved by the government, acknowledging that it raised antitrust issues.
