WORLD IN BRIEF : SOMALIA : U.N. Fails to Strike Deal With Warlord

U.N. officials presented a new aid plan to one of Somalia’s top warlords, but the proposals for the starving East African nation failed to gain his approval. The U.N. delegation that met with Gen. Mohammed Farrah Aidid proposed a massive 100-day effort to move food by air and land through “corridors of tranquillity.” Aidid, who has resented the presence of U.N. workers, did not agree, but a U.N. official held out hope that he would later concur.
