LOS ANGELES : Local Olympians Honored by Mayor, City Council

Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley and the City Council paused from their business Friday to honor a group of Southern Californians who participated in this year’s Olympic Games in Barcelona.

Bradley and council President John Ferraro presented each athlete with a certificate of appreciation from the city.

Among the Olympians were crew gold medalist Hal Haenel and track and field gold medalists Kevin Young of Los Angeles and Quincy Watts of Inglewood. Watts, who attends USC, brought home two golds.

Other Olympians in attendance were javelin throwers Michael Barnett of Glendora and Donna Mayhew of Glendale, fencer Daniel Dechaine of Claremont, 10-kilometer walker Victoria Herazo of Pasadena, soccer midfielder Cobi Jones of Westlake, lightweight boxer Pepe Reilly of Glendale, rower Michael Still of Los Angeles and figure skater Natasha Kuchiki of Canoga Park, who competed in the Winter Games in Albertville, France.
