Colorado sought revenge Saturday against Baylor and the No. 12 Buffaloes achieved their goal with a 57-38 victory at Waco, Tex.

Kordell Stewart, playing only a half because of a foot injury, completed 16 of 17 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns to help Colorado avenge a two-point loss to Baylor last season.

Stewart, who passed for a school-record 409 yards last week, led Colorado (2-0) to a 33-3 lead in the first half. Stewart’s only incomplete pass came when he intentionally grounded the ball.

“Everything was open,” said Stewart, who completed a school-record 13 consecutive passes. “If we keep doing what we’re doing, we’ll probably break a lot of records this year.

“Colorado has been a rushing team, so passing records are easier to break.”

Baylor Coach Grant Teaff said Colorado’s passing game was unstoppable.

“Stewart is a great athlete, very impressive,” Teaff said. “He killed us on third down. It was very discouraging because we just couldn’t stop him.”

It was the most points Baylor (0-2) has allowed at home in the 21 years that Grant Teaff has been the coach.

The total matched the most ever allowed at Waco, when Texas beat Baylor, 57-0, in 1914.

Stewart’s touchdown pass plays covered six, 35 and 52 yards to tight end Christian Fauria, split end Charles Johnson, and wingback Michael Westbrook, respectively.

Tailback Lamont Warren scored three times on short runs for Colorado.

Baylor scored first on Trey Weir’s 28-yard field goal after Melvin Bonner had dropped a sure touchdown pass in the end zone.

Colorado came back and also got a 50-yard field goal from Pat Blottiaux, a one-yard scoring run from Warren, and a safety when Baylor quarterback J.J. Joe grounded the ball in his own end zone.

Baylor had only two first downs in the first half. One came on an 80-yard scoring pass play from Joe to David Mims.

Baylor’s Robert Strait scored on a five-yard run and Joe threw a 33-yard scoring pass to Melvin Bonner in the second half.

The Bears, however, couldn’t stop Warren, who had scoring runs of four and 14 yards.

Mark McFarland returned an intercepted pass 46 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Tobin came back with a 39-yard scoring pass to Donnell Leomiti. Joe threw his fourth touchdown pass with 2:02 left, a 30-yarder to Reggie Miller.

No. 13 Oklahoma 61, Arkansas State 0--The Sooners, who play USC next week, scored on every first-half possession during the rout at Norman, Okla.

Oklahoma (2-0) outgained Arkansas State, 532-73, and rested its starters through much of the second half.

Arkansas State (0-2), in its first year in Division I-A after 10 years in I-AA, lost to Toledo last week, 49-0.

Earnest Williams gained 116 yards in 11 carries and scored on a 60-yard run that gave the Sooners a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.

The Sooners scored the most points in a half under fourth-year coach Gary Gibbs. The previous high was 38 in a 73-3 victory over New Mexico State in 1989.

Kansas 62, Ball State 10--Chip Hilleary passed for three touchdowns and Dan Eichloff kicked a school-record 61-yard field goal at Lawrence, Kan., as the Jayhawks amassed their highest point total in 24 years.

Eichloff was a yard shy of the Big Eight record when he connected with the aid of a strong wind in the third quarter. He broke his school record of 58 yards set two years ago.

Kansas (2-0) had it biggest day since scoring 68 against New Mexico in 1968.
