Clinton Anderson pulled around top qualifier Carter Read to win the top-fuel hydro final of the International Hot Boat Assn. nationals at Castaic Lake.
Anderson drove his Fatal Attraction hydro at 5.437 seconds to 215.82 m.p.h. to Read’s 5.465 and 210.27 in one of the closest finishes of the year. Read remains in first place in the point standings. Anderson moved up to fourth.
Defending top-fuel champion Ron Braaksma lost to Read in the semifinals when Read was timed in 5.407 seconds for the quarter-mile.
