Retailing Computers: Toshiba America’s computer systems division in Irvine said its new Satellite Series notebook computers will be sold in Price Club warehouse-style retail outlets beginning in October.
The computers, which weigh less than eight pounds, are priced to compete with low-cost machines by other so-called clone makers.
No longer content to sell their wares through regular dealers, computer makers are scrambling for shelf space among retailers such as Price Club to reach a wider range of customers. Toshiba has about 13.9% of the portable computer market, according to International Data Corp., a research firm in Framingham, Mass.
