WOODLAND HILLS : Men Charged With Bombing Mailbox

Two West Valley men were charged on Monday with using a homemade bomb to blow up a mailbox last Thursday in Woodland Hills as a prank.

Ross Woolley, 29, of Woodland Hills, who police say suffered a broken arm and other injuries when the bomb exploded prematurely inside the mailbox, is to be arraigned today in Van Nuys Superior Court. Also to be arraigned is Tony Hawkins, 24, of Reseda, who police say participated in the prank.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Robert P. Imerman said the two were arrested Friday after another homemade bomb fell out of Woolley’s pocket while he was being treated at West Valley Hospital for injuries from the accidental blast in a mailbox on Cass Avenue. Police said that the pair apparently selected the mailbox at random.

A search of Woolley’s home turned up four more bombs, the prosecutor said, and police are seeking evidence to link him to a series of similar mailbox bombings in the West Valley.
