AZTECS NOTEBOOK : Aztecs to Take Time Off to Watch Bruins Closely

After opening the season with two games in five days, the Aztecs are taking it easy this week. They don’t play again until Sept. 26 and they won’t practice in pads until Wednesday.

They will be watching to see how UCLA, their next opponent, plays against Brigham Young, especially now that the Bruins will be without quarterback Wayne Cook. Redshirt freshman Rob Walker will guide UCLA.

“We need to see what (Walker) is going to look like in that hostile environment,” Aztecs Coach Al Luginbill said. “He came into last week’s game in a comfortable situation, with his team ahead.”

“It’s a freak thing,” Luginbill said of Cook’s knee injury in Saturday’s 37-14 victory over Cal State Fullerton. “But that has a way of bringing out the best in young men through togetherness. Good people rally around situations like that.”
