World IN BRIEF : PERSIAN GULF : Iraqi Air Force Had 1 Kill, Officer Says

A U.S. Navy jet destroyed in the early days of the Persian Gulf War was shot down by an Iraqi warplane and not by a ground-to-air missile, as the Pentagon maintains, a senior Navy intelligence officer said. An op-ed article in the New York Times by Mark Crispin Miller quoted Capt. Carlos Johnson as saying, “We were pretty sure at the beginning” that the FA-18 was shot down by an Iraqi MIG-25.
