Channel Checks: ABC’s “Home Improvement” nailed NBC’s “Seinfeld” in the ratings when the two comedies went head to head with new episodes for the first time Wednesday night. A.C. Nielsen Co. ratings released Thursday gave “Home” an 18.6 rating and “Seinfeld” a 12.5. With each rating point representing 931,000 households, that means about 17.3 million were tuned to “Home Improvement” and 11.6 million to “Seinfeld.” . . . Meanwhile, over at Fox, the premiere episode of the new half-hour comedy “Great Scott” has been pushed back one week to Oct. 4.
