FULLERTON : Peruvian Exhibit to Open at Museum

Share

Raul Pinto, Peruvian ambassador to the United States, will attend the opening of a Peruvian exhibit here today.

The Fullerton Museum Center is showing reproductions from a 1,200-page illustrated letter written 400 years ago by a Peruvian to the king of Spain.

Guaman Poma de Ayala, an Andean Indian, spent 30 years writing and illustrating his letter, which documented Spanish abuse of native Peruvians.

Historians do not know if the king ever received the letter. It was found in Copenhagen. The museum will also show Inca tunics, ritual drinking cups, maps and religious paintings.

The Poma exhibit is the second of three to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Columbus’ landing in the Americas.
