NWA Union Recommends Pilots Accept Proposal: Representatives of Northwest Airline’s 5,800 pilots have recommended approval for a proposal that would give the carrier $300 million in wage and work-rule concessions spread over three years. The announcement came after four days of meetings between the airline and the 25-member Air Line Pilots Assn. leadership group. Northwest asked the pilots in June to come up with a proposal that would save the airline a total of $500 million over five years. The recommended proposal will be the subject of 29 meetings in 11 cities. The company is expected to seek similar concessions from the International Assn. of Machinists.
