Ruelas to Face Flores in Tuneup for Nelson

Gabriel Ruelas of Arleta, the World Boxing Council’s top-ranked super featherweight contender, will fight Gilberto Flores of Culiacan, Mexico, Sept. 29 in a scheduled 10-round bout at the Reseda Country Club.

Ruelas is 32-1 with 16 knockouts. His lone defeat came in 1990 when he sustained a broken bone in his right elbow during a bout against Jeff Franklin in Las Vegas. Manager Dan Goossen said negotiations are under way with promoter Don King to match Ruelas and super featherweight champion Azumah Nelson early in December.

Flores is 19-7 with 18 knockouts.
