2nd-Quarter Profit Drops at National Technical

National Technical Systems Inc. said its fiscal second-quarter profit dropped to $17,000 from $187,000 a year earlier on little change in revenue.

The Calabasas provider of testing and technical services said its revenue in the quarter ended July 31 edged up to $10.7 million from $10.5 million a year earlier.

Lower defense spending and the recession hampered the company’s results, National Technical said.

For the first half of its fiscal year, National Technical’s profit fell 49%, to $160,000 from $314,000 a year earlier, and its six-month revenue rose 7%, to $21.7 million from $20.3 million.
