In another case involving the NFL, attorneys for players on the league’s developmental squads said in a federal court in Washington that their clients lost millions of dollars in wages in 1989 as a result of an illegal price-fixing scheme.
Joseph Yablonski, attorney for the plaintiffs in the class-action suit, said in opening arguments before U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth that the sole purpose of the developmental squad system was to save money for owners.
The attorney for NFL club owners, Peter Nickles, said the 235 players in the suit are not entitled to any damages because “these guys didn’t make the team.”
