Bill to Ease Credit Access Dies: Legislation to increase consumers’ access to their credit reports and make it easier for them to correct errors effectively died after the House refused to let states adopt more stringent requirements. Consumer groups that spearheaded the legislation dropped their support for it when the House, on a 207-203 vote, defeated an amendment that would have allowed states to adopt stronger measures. The bill would have required credit bureaus to provide a free report to a consumer within 60 days of taking an adverse action.
