Nigeria to Hold Primaries Despite Candidates’ Boycott
The military government of Nigeria is going ahead with the final round of presidential primaries today despite a boycott by some candidates.
The boycotting candidates said the leader for the Social Democratic Party’s nomination, a retired general, had bought his big lead with payments to voters. Some candidates of the other party also accused their party’s leadership of rigging the vote in the first two rounds.
Voting was held Sept. 12 in 10 states, again Sept. 19 in 10 other states. The remaining 10 states vote today, with the general election Dec. 5.
