First of the Movies: “The Last of the Mohicans,” Fox’s frontier saga starring Daniel Day-Lewis, threw a tomahawk at the box-office competition over the weekend by taking the No. 1 spot with about $11 million in its first week of release, according to early industry estimates. Universal’s “Sneakers,” which had led the pack for the past two weeks, dropped to No. 2 with $5.2 million. “Captain Ron,” starring Kurt Russell, was next with $4.8 million. Billy Crystal’s “Mr. Saturday Night” was in fourth place with $4.7 million, and Cameron Crowe’s “Singles” took in $3.1 million for fifth.
