Textron Lycoming Plans to Cut 1,400 Jobs: The defense contractor said it will eliminate more than 40% of its work force, up to 1,400 jobs, over the next year through a combination of layoffs and attrition. Textron Lycoming, which makes small gas-turbine engines for tanks, helicopters and other aircraft, attributed the cutback to reduced defense spending. The company told workers that it planned to lay off 200 workers by the end of October.
